Turkey’s First Adult Ballet Show “İKİNCİ BULUŞMA” Met Its Audience Again at AKM

Yetişkin Bale Dance and Sports Club, which has brought ballet and dance to many adults with no ballet background since 2011, broke a new ground in Turkey in 2023 and introduced the adult ballet show to the audience. Following the intense interest of the press and art lovers, this year it met with its audience at the Atatürk Kültür Merkezi on June 5, 2024, with its show called “İkinci Buluşma”, its expanded adult ballet cast and new choreographies.

For the demonstration held at AKM on Wednesday, June 5, 70 women continued their work with great excitement with the instructor staff led by Ekin Akbaş Arpacı. This year, Elidor, which supports young women to walk their own path, accompanied this excitement as the main sponsor. Among the sponsors of the show were KAFT, Brown-Forman Turkey and Maybelline New York, which have always supported art and women.

Ekin Akbaş Arpacı, founder of Yetişkin Bale, said before the show, “The interest shown in our adult ballet show “Meeting”, which is a first in Turkey and held in 2023, once again underlined the promise of ballet for everyone, which is the starting point of our institution. And this year, once again, I and our institution are very excited about our new show that will be presented to our audience by women from different ages, body characteristics and professions in Turkey who do not have a ballet or dance background. I already applaud each of them and thank them all very much. I wish you to accompany with your applause the intense and unique process in which our students put their hearts into it along with their discipline, courage and bodies.” She expressed his feelings by saying.

“İkinci Buluşma”, which featured 20 different choreographies consisting of contemporary dance and neo-classical ballet, including sections from classical ballet works such as Giselle and La Bayadere, met with 800 spectators, received a standing ovation for several minutes and received a lot of appreciation from the art community, and continues to do so.

Ekin Akbaş Arpacı said, “I am proud of both my students and my team after the show. They had the courage to take the first step on stage and fascinated everyone. I watched 70 strong, self-confident and passionate women on stage today and it was priceless. As an institution, we continue our journey with a big “I’m glad”. We were together with many professionals in the ballet world, from lighting to costumes, throughout this process. I would like to thank our audience, it was a great honor for me to receive a standing ovation for my students and team for minutes!” she shared his feelings by saying.

Yetişkin Bale Dance and Sports Club continues to bring adults together with their dreams with the motto that everyone can do ballet at any age. There are ballet classes for adults at different levels, including beginner, intermediate and advanced, in Karaköy and Caddebostan studios. It is ensured that the person works in the appropriate class according to his/her development. With the awareness that every body is different, physiotherapy and occupational therapy were included in the program and the program was created by conducting research on health. In short, its doors are open to everyone who wants to do ballet and dance.

Ekin Akbaş Arpacı, who put on the adult ballet show for the first time in Turkey, continues to work with her team to realize new firsts and dreams.
